Well, if it ever was a coin, it looks like useless metal now...

Hmm.... Well if it was a coin... made of iron.

I would personally appreciate the HISTORICAL value of it...

Not really focused on the monetary gain :/
thanks for your input!

By giving more details of where it was found as park, home, field, bush beach.
Also what type of metal.
Also this size
It would help the readership in determining whether it was a coin or button, or just a piece of crap.
Remember you will get lots of help if you provide the suggestions.

its iron.
found by the railroad tracks where the original "main street" of Hays Kansas was located.

I honestly am not really concerned with identifying it at this point.

Its probably useless junk.
thank you for your insight.

Thats what i meant when i said "if it was a coin made of iron"

Maybe not iron. possibly STEEL. i dont know. Thats why i posted it. it is ferrous. which i previously stated. I included a photo which should be sufficient for scale purposes.

And beyond that.... i don't know..
which is why i was asking the good and knowledgable gentlemen of this awesome brotherhood.!

It just really irks me when the first post is claiming it could be "crap"... IT COULD, i know that...

but the reason im telling you this is because when i first started my quest in longing for the secrets hidden in the Earth... I found a roman fibulae. Had it for weeks. Didnt know what it was. My dad convinced me it was just an old broken coat hanger from a wall rack or some shit....

Now that bronze fibulae is sitting in a dump outside of my town. :(

I can never permit myself to toss anything until im 100% SURE of its truth.

So i apologize if i came off like a jerk man.

Well for what it's worth, I wasn't being flippant either. I meant just what I said -- if it ever was a coin, it is now unidentifiable. Given that it's iron (or steel), I doubt it was a coin. It's hard to say what it was. Electrical box knockout comes to mind, but it looks old and beat up if that's what it is.

Sorry about the fibula -- where did you find that one (surely not in Kansas?).

yes. In Hays Kansas. Under a tree between two roots that made a V shape against the trunk of the tree. There was an iron plate, rusted, that had grown into the surrounding two roots. i chipped away at the roots and sitting right behind the round piece of flat iron there was a bronze fibulae just sitting there in a little nook.

Obviously someone placed it there intentionally because the tree is only like.... maybe 80-100 years old. Somewhere in there

also i appeeciate it

If it was close enough to the train tracks, maybe it's something that was put on the track by a kid. People put coins on the track and the train smashes it flat. Is it thin enough that this might be the case?

Sorry, but nothing is useless junk.

Are you showing a picture of both front and back?
I'm interested that you said "I found a roman fibulae."
Was that in the same area?

It's curiuos

Just wondering out loud, but being iron would eliminate a lot of currency but what about a token? Maybe a local business or a train company made them on the cheap? I live in the opposite corner of the state but been in hays several times over the years. Finding Roman things is really interesting. Don’t expect to find much older than 1850 ish and definitely nothing… metal… earlier than 1500… goes to show you never can be sure

its not quite that flat tho

.... You see the top left where the blue corner meets the tree line? Right under that biggest tree at the top is where it was found. I feel so bad for throwing that thing away man.

I knew it was bronze.... KNEW deep down i had seen it before. For some reason i let my dads opinion sway me.... Hes kinda tired of me keeping alot of the iron and stuff that i find. But after than whole fiasco... I absolutely refuse to throw something away until i exhaust all false possibilities and amd convinced i know what the truth of an object actually is :p

This is a roman bronze coin from Emperor Hadrian.
Who knows how things get to travel around the world.
It could have been in someone's collection.

A Greek coin from 420 BC

Doesn’t strike me as a coin. Looks to be made in that exact shape. First thought was a dog tag but it doesn’t have a hole in it. Very interesting find.
