Any Ideas On These Two Items? Solved: Part of a Cap Badge & Patent Tag

I found these two pieces a couple of days ago at an old plantation site that existed as rental property until the 1940s. Both pieces are about the size of a silver dollar. I put one photo in of one of the pieces with a quarter to help reference the size. Any thoughts on these items would be appreceiated ~ Jimmy

Re: Any Ideas On These Two Items?

Jim, the second relic seems to be a patent tag. (It is awesome by the way!) With a little peroxide and q-tip cleaning you should be able to get a name and a date of it, as the letters seem to be pretty clear under that corrosion.

Is the piece in the center of the first item broken off in the front or does it look like it was made that way? If it's broken off that piece might be part of a drawer pull. The second piece like someone said looks like it has a patent date and might also have a makers name.

The first one looks like a drawer pull to me that has been broken.

You guys put me on the right track with the second piece being a patent tag. With a bit of cleaning I was able to make out the following: In the middle area of the tag it says "Negative Pole" and has several lightning bolts under the words ... the words on the outside rim of the piece say "The Elias ????? galvanic medal ... patented October 21, 1879".

The first piece appears to have no broken piece on the front.

Re: Any Ideas On These Two Items?

After a bit of research I think I have solved the first whatzit. I believe it is part of a two piece cap badge. I knew I've seen a piece like this before so I went back through some of my old finds and there was a miltary cap badge I found a couple of years ago that really resembles this piece. Here is one on ebay that is similar: http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-US-Army...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item5d2773068d
