I dug this the other day and am wondering why the uniformity of it.

As you can see, it is thinner on the one end as opposed to the other as if it were poured andthe mold was sitting off kilter.

Any ideas as to what it might be? Just a partial ingot?

Pictures tell the story as to size and weight.

Thanks
DJH

Old slice of SPAM? :laughing9:

That sure is an interesting find. The marks on it...are those letters or scratches? Looks too new to be a Roman pig of lead and I'm guessing you found this in America?

You are correct.

Found in America and the scratches are new. Wanted to make sure it was lead so did the scratch test ;D

Never gave a thought to the Spam :sign10:

I'm wondering if it is the back plate to a belt plate like the ones that had in Louisiana during the Civil War? Interesting find, Breezie

It did cross my mind later that it could be a weight for a divers belt, but it was found no where close to any water really. There's a creek about a half mile away and the river another mile the other direction. This was at the same depth as a penny from 1938.

I think it would be awful heavy for a back plate as it is nearly 1 pound.
Thanks for giving it a try.

Could possibly be a weight for a work out belt. Similar to the divers belt but used for walking or jogging and adding weight. Not sure just a guess.
