Hello,
I found this "wrench" looking thing on a farm that once had a Union Civil War camp on it. It was found at about the same depth as the bullets and other period things we are finding. Does anyone know what it is, what it was used for and if it is civil war period or not? The coin in the picture is a modern nickel for scale. Any info is appreciated.

Thanks

JimK

Not Civil War - hex nuts weren't common until after 1890 or even later. They used square nuts. IF it is a wrench.

It might be a rope tensioner of some type?

I'm thinking bicycle wrench will be my guess.

Bicycle wrench is a good fit. If it was plastic, you could sit on the porch and blow bubbles in the breeze with that item.

Maybe part of a spring shackle?
