Sorry for the horrible pics, still no camera. I have to wait for my son to snap a few pics (scanners work great on flat things, but not so well with objects that have shape :BangHead:

Anyway, this was pretty deep and at a site my brother and I were diggin CW bullets and buttons. It is obviously bent out of the original shape...but still not so sure you can tell by pics. On one side of circular piece, it kind of has a point and the other side is oval shaped. And what appears to be mounting bracket with two holes.

Anyway, any help or suggestions are welcomed. Thanks in advance!

It looks a lot like the handle off of a candlestick holder.

Nhbenz indeed got it right. It is definitely a hand-carried candleholder's "thumb-&-finger handle," which was located on the edge of the candleholder's disc-shaped base. When you had to make a night-time trip to the little shack out back, you would put your index finger through the ring and your thumb on the ring's oval-shaped projection to hold it steady.

When a relic is part of a larger object which is absent, I think it's helpful to provide the relic-digger with a photo showing the original larger object and where the found part was located on it. The photos below show antique hand-carried "adjustable" candle-holders, with a disc-shaped base, and the thumb-&-finger handle riveted onto the base-disc's edge.
