Any ideas on what this is?

Hi my wife and I found this while out hiking and I was wondering If anyone has an idea of what it is? It isn't attracted to a magnet, it is heavy, and it fits into the palm of my hand. Thanks

Also this was found in Vermont next to a river bed.

This seems metallic So I don't think it is a fossil. I might be wrong though. any other ideas?
