found this piece detecting an area I found a nice button. It looks like the same material and oxidation. Any ideas what this piece was part of/used for?

The first item is a ferrule from a handle of a scythe.
I'll find an old T'net thread about these, and post the link.

I think your eagle button looking piece is actually hardware from an old hand saw, can't think of the technical name right now though.....

The button is a New York militia button, I think that style is pre Civil War, 1830's, one of the button guys can tell you for sure Scroll down this link a bit and you'l see yours.... Old Rebellion War Relics

Thanks TRIK, and yes it is a new york milita button.

same exact one shown here in center. Shank is broke, but it says 'silver'd surface' 'warranted'.
