Hi all I found this at a turn of the century site. I think it’s cast, doesn’t appear to be iron but it reads on my xterra 705 as ferrous. Maybe an alloy?

I would assume it's a rowlock/oarlock and the additional small loop is so you can secure your oar against overboard loss.

it's an oar lock

, red coat got it right , beat me by 000.5 seconds .

Thanks all for the reply! Strange thing is it was found in the desert and the closest lake is known to only be about 5 feet deep max....during the spring.

This site tells about the eye in the side of the oarlock and the use of a lanyard. I had to look it up because I couldn’t figure out what the eye was for...
