any info on 1998 silver penny

Hello! I have one too. It weighs 2.53
Could be zinc without the copper on top??
Has anyone found out anything else?

Entirely possible that it could be an unplated zinc cent. It is also highly likely that it could be a victim of a high school chemistry class and have zinc plated over the copper plating.

At 2.53 grams, it could go either way without more evidence.
