I have been working an early 1800s foundation and have already pulled an 1842-3 large cent

Well I dug this there yesterday. After cleaning it up it looks to be solid copper!! It is marked with a 132 on the bottom and that's all I can find

Looks like it had a lid at one point as well

My daughter has already claimed it as her own as a place to put jewlery lol

Objects from this site have ranged from 1800-1920. Does this fit in there as well? Is this a cheap knock knack or something like a Wendell August forge piece? Any help would be appreciated

You have been killing it lately. I'm checking out a spot in the woods today that has some early 1800s potential. It's hard to pinpoint exactly where things occurred back then, but hoping I can hit some decent finds to get a better idea if it is worth hunting long term. Nice find I hope you can ID it.

The luck has been with me for sure. Too bad you are moving I could have taken you to this site

It's amazing that with all the research I have been doing. Word of mouth still gives me the best spots. Every house in my neighborhood was built in the 1950s. Except I find that the one was the original farm house from 1871. Did no good there but the owner is the one who took me to the new site. And there are acres to be searched through

I agree with you. Word of mouth gets me a lot of good information. I can tell some houses around me have been hunted before, but the good things about woods and fields is that most people don't take the trouble to hunt them or think to. I much rather find older relics and coins so I stay out the parks for the most part. I hate digging modern change and aluminum haha. Good luck keep us updated with the new spot.

Very nice!

My first thought is that it may be an ink well stand. . . missing the glass ink vessel.
The number on the piece may indicate it's decorative style or it being part of a set.

Whatever it is, it sure looks like it fits in the 19th-century time period of where you've been hunting.

Thanks for the help. Interesting idea as an inkwell. It looks like it had an attatched lid at some point. Definitely a pretty wide range of items at this site. I also found a 1920s??? Gillette razor within a few feet of this piece
