Any Military/Civil War Experts?!

Hi all,

It’s been a long while since I’ve had the chance to post anything. Preparing for medical school takes away a lot of time. I hope everyone is doing well during this crazy and chaotic time.

Anyhow, I was at a site today from the late 1860s and based upon the literature and my field observations, the site was abandoned in the early 1880s. I have never found a hat pin like this before, I’m hoping it’s infantry but I know some of the experts here will know for sure. Any idea what “UC” stands for? I also found what looks to be a toy tea cup? Not sure, it is pewter(?) cast and has a floral design.

Great looking find in nice shape too, hope you get it confirmed as authentic.
The other finds from your site all look to be from the 2nd half of the 19thc.

I think that is a Union infantry officer's hat badge. No idea what UC stands for. If all else fails, go to the American Civil War forum and ask them. http://civilwartalk.com Gary

It’s been suggested to me that this is possibly a University of California Union Cadet infantry pin from the early 1870s

That time frame seems about right for the pin with the open loop catch on the back. The toy tea cup is really interesting! Good luck in med school. My youngest son is just 2 months away from finishing residency - its been a long haul.

He is completing a Hospitalist residency. He prefers the variety of conditions he sees with that, the hours of a hospital, and not dealing directly w/ insurance companies. Good luck to you!
