Any New York leads?

research the New York City draft riot in the civil war and you will get cache leads from the ones who were killed or sent to prison. See also the Influenza epidemic of 1918 where the returning doughboys came back sick and millions of people died. exanimo, ss

I live in Washington County. Plenty of battles fought here but I haven't heard of any cache's round these parts. I'm sure there are plenty but no stories of them yet.

The civil war cover most of NYS. There were major battles in Sacketts Harbor and Saratoga but unfortunately it is illegal to search historical sites in NY. People were trained at Ft Drum NY for the war of 1812 but it is restricted to hunt on post. The catskills are is very rich in treasures. What counties will you be searching in?

Just a quick bit of info on...
Wyoming co. Civil war training camp the town name is Portage (also a ghost town) Portageville is just south of Portage. The bad news is Portage and the civil war training camp are inside Letchworth State Park. Very nice place to take a hike around but leave the md at home ;).
http://www.letchworthparkhistory.com/lpa98.html

Livingston co, Bernarr MacFadden this one has my interest google his name early bodybuilder, wrestler, scam artist, millionare, ect. His late widowed wife is said to have stated 2 to 6 million is missing from the estate. Looks as if around a million has been recovered on long island in several of his caches.
The building it self (Physical Culture Hotel) is also very interesting First opened in 1854 as The Danville Water Cure then called Our Home on the Hillside. All used the spring water as a cure all. After WWI it was used as a Veterans Psychiatric hospital for a short time. Bernarr bought it in 1922 and the last time it was open was 1971 or 72. The property now is privately owned posted and patrolled.

This thread has renewed my interest in my area. I have been comparing 1903 topo maps with recent ones, printing both and circling houses or groups of house that are no longer there. Two of the ares are places you mentioned in this thread. Other places arre heavily wooded areas now and I a getting cabin fever waiting for the snow to melt so I can get out there. I can't wait. Got 8" more snow today.
