Hello,
My friends dad found this stone object in northern Oakland county Michigan about 1 foot deep in a swampy area in the 1970s. He kept it in a box in his desk for the past 50 years and its made me very curious. I have never seen anything similar before, and the use of it as a tool is not immediately obvious to me. It looks man made to me so I figured I would ask you experts your thoughts.
Thanks!

We find stones similar to yours in the creeks on occasion. Some are quite large. I have always thought that the strange shapes were from water and sand wear/abrasion. I think it is just natural, but cool looking.

flinthunter is correct--a naturally eroded rock. No evidence I can see that it was shaped by human hands.

Welcome to t-net. My guess it is a sediment fossil of some type. It is pieces like this though that are interesting to look at. It is not an artifact though. Considering it is millions of years old still pretty cool.

Natural erosion.

Welcome to TreasureNet, sorry not Indian artifact, natural erosion.

Appears to be a fossilized shell (well, the shell is long gone, but what filled it up is still somewhat remaining, but eroded away).

Agree with above comments, still cool though.

thanks everyone, it is pretty crazy what erosion will do to rocks haha.
even though this turned out to not be an artifact it ignited my curiosity and I plan to start looking, plenty of native artifacts found in southeast Michigan.
hopefully I will post a real artifact find soon!
