Sounds like a cool idea, I haven't ever been there, but the reservations I'd have would be . . . Is there a real beach there? I went to Lake Pleasant, and at the gate asked them if there was a beach there, they said, yes. Went in and there was a rock-littered shoreline, no sand . . . so if their definition of a "beach" here in Arizona holds the same for Lake Havasu, I'd not want much to do with metal detecting there. Perhaps someone who has been there can clarify. I'd also want to find out how many public beaches there are there.
