I stopped in to the local shop today and was talking to another customer. He was buying a Pro Pointer. I told him I have one on the way also...he said " don't forget the Plasti Dip" I had no idea what he was talking about. He said to dip the end in Plasti Dip you can get at the home improvement stores about 3 inches or so....apparently it helps protect the end from scrapes and/or damage.....

Has anyone done this to their Pro Pointer? If so, does it help? Any cons to doing this?

Thanks for any input....My first ever Pro pointer should be here in a couple days...can't wait to try it out.....Shorty

I did this and also dipped the other end up past the button and to the light. Waterproof. Works great! Do a second dip after the first. Mine is starting to wear but it does protect it!

A lot of people here have done it!

I haven't done mine, as a matter of fact i haven't taken ANY protective measures for my Propointer, and almost 4 years later it works as well as day 1... Just slight scuffs/light scratches doesnt hardly even detract from the visual appearance.

I hunt pretty extreme terrain... Rocky limestone and honeycomb ledges, etc... i just don't use my Propointer in situations that a digger was meant for.

Also, i dont water hunt... But i do clean the propointer under the water faucet after every hunt and just put the ball of my finger over the speaker grille for good measure (which according to the manual, isn't even necessary.)

I store it with the batteries taken out if its gonna sit unused for more than a few days, which is rare.

I'd say don't baby it, but don't abuse it either!

EDIT: i have used Plasti-Dip on a bunch of my aluminum pipe bank stakes (for holding fishing rods) to protect my rods/reels. Plasti-Dip is a great product and has held up great... Id guess that you wouldn't be disappointed if thats the route you decide to go.

Mine came in a plastic housing already :)

I wish I did something. Mine is less than a year old, and just about had it unfortunately

All I ever do is occasionally rinse mine off and use a toothpick to clean out the speaker area. If you notice your
Propointer is getting quieter, it is probably because of a plugged speaker.
