Anyone ever found a caltrop?

Anyone here ever find a caltrop of any kind, especially civil war? I'm not even sure what they are made of or how they would id on a detector. I've never found one myself, but I think they are neat. For those who don't know, they were used to basically give horses a flat tire by getting imbedded in their hooves. Modern ones are used to disable vehicle tires.
