A wild guess...the insides of a clip on bow tie, used to help it keep it's shape. Looks like it has some of it broken off.
Probably way off in my guess before coffee today.

I have seen similar from a dump site out of the 30s, 40s as it 1930-40
I never did figure out what they were.

Kind of looks like part of an old car emblem too. I have seen alot of older car emblems that had a stud on the back of them like that that pushed into a grommet in a hole on the car. Just a WAG.

Looks like a moulding retainer clip for automotive or truck exterior trim. It snaps into the back of a moulding, then is pushed through a hole in the body, then an acorn or push nut is used to capture the stud, thus holding said item to the body of the vehicle ;D........Autobody and frame repair, 44 years experience.
