I can't do the negative thing but I bet that would bring out the lettering.I know someone has shown what the negative of what's it before.

German, apparently. Genre bild is the title.

"Genre-blid" or "genre picture" is apparently a category of subject matter. From my reading, its a scene that pertains to "everyday life". I'm not sure how portraits of King Henry and Anne Boleyn qualify in that genre but my knowledge of it only goes back 5 minutes....
