Anyone know what this is?

I found it 6" under the banks of the Tennessee river bank. My Bh-505 picked it up as a quarter so I guess its made of copper. It sure looks like its a copper buckle of some type, but I have no idea. Its about an inch wide by an inch long. Maybe something from the civil war perhaps?

Don't know what it is but looks like it is copper plated potmetal. Tony

Appears to me to be a man's belt buckle. The small post near the "front" was inserted into the holes in the leather belt. The "rear" edge on the side with the post had rectangular loop at one time. The loop held the other end of the folded and tacked leather belt. It has broken off. I still wear belts with buckles of this style. Nice find, happy hunting. Sub
