Anyone live close to Newport News, VA. ?

I lived along the James river when I was kid. I found lots of old coins, bottles, buttons etc. Even knew a friend who found a huge brass cannon in the river. Anyone metal detected there along the shore lately? Just wondering what you could find. I live in Texas now.

Did your friend keep the "Bronze" cannon....?? Did he find any information about it...?? Pictures...

My sister in law and her husband live there, I;ve only been there once and didn;t have my detector with me but do plan on a return trip and hope to get out detecting there for a week or so. Lot of histroy in that area and her husband knows alot of people in the area that own farms and permission to hunt them should be no problem...
