I stood him up so he would be easier to look at. He has a relatively modern double barrel, hammer-less shot gun. So the photo doesn't go as far back as one would think. Probably early 1900's.

I'm surprised more didn't recognize this man. Then again, it could be Frank I suppose. Look at the ears and nostrils

My guess would be a dirt poor soddie farmer who went into town for supplies, and got waylaid by the traveling photographer.

That's what I was thinking. He does look like he did have a shave, so maybe he knew the photographer was in town that day and got himself spiffed up for the occasion.?
