Found this shell casing at an old dump site. I've never seen one with that big a head on it. Kinda long too. When I found it, I initially thought it was an old car door lock knob. After cleaning it off and seeing the primer button in the head, I realized it must be a bullet casing. The head has F 1117-44 on it. Any idea as to usage, year, or other info?

It dont look like any firearm casing I have every seen .Could it be from some type of nail gun?

I have no idea, but one thing that comes to mind is an artillery shell primer. That flat-bottomed hit from the firing pin doesn't look like what you'd expect from a hand-held firearm.

I wonder if it has something to do with a flare gun???

Oh, and the side wall is thicker than any other shell casing I've found also. I'd say probably twice as thick as your standard one. Maybe some sort of high powered round?
