Found this in a farm field yesterday... It's got some fancy on it but no other visible markings. Looks like a cover of some sort and there is a tab on the inside circumference that maybe located it properly? Made out of brass I believe.

I think you guys nailed it with the bell...
And Plug n Play, a bicycle bell I believe it is!
Good call! It rings nicely too when balanced on something and tapped.
Obsessive, I was thinking doorknob for a minute but in my 16yrs of carpentry and working on very old homes I've never seen one like this...
Funny thing is, the woman says "looks like the top of a bell" I'm like "pshhhhhh naw I don't think so"
Lol once bicycle bell was said I was like, ohhhhhhhh!!

Thanks guys!!

Although many bicycle bells were plain, some had ornate designs on the bell. The photos below, showing a fully intact "Century" brand bicycle bell, were recently posted here in the What-Is-It forum as a reply to an ID request by a digger who found the top part of a "Century" bicycle bell, and didn't know what it was.
