Apple Air Pods anyone?

Sorry if this has been asked before, I didn't see any mention of them. Is anyone using them with your EQ 800? If so, how do you like them? Pros-Cons? It seems like it would be a good lightweight option, especially in the summer months. Thanks in advance for any input.

They will not work. You will need an option on your headphones called low – latency .


Anything Bluetooth will certainly pair with your equinox or other wireless metal detector. But unless it’s low latency, there will be a one second delay in the audio, making it impossible to use as headphones.

Apple air pods do not appear to support APTX low latency but I do know a couple of prominent detectorists who use them with their Equinox. Personally, anything that does not support APTX LL (30-40 ms) has too much delay for me. APTX is around 60 ms and everything else is greater than 100 ms which is unusable for even normal coil sweep sperds. Apple really makes it hard to get useful information on tech specs for their products.

Max delay on BT is about 250 ms (1/4 of a second). Most people notice lack of sync between sound and video if it is greater than 50 ms (1/20 of a second).

Sounds like it's not gonna be a viable option. I have been using the WM 08 module, with the ear buds that came with my I-pod nano. It works well enough I suppose. Just exploring other options. Thanks for the replies.

FWIW, the ML proprietary WiStream wireless spec used by the WM08 has a 17ms delay which is faster than even APTX LL. Are the stock ML 800 bluetooth headphones too uncomfortable for you (warm climate), because they work pretty well.

These wireless BT earbuds are APTX LL compatible with the Equinox and are priced less than $30

I’ve been using these for about five weeks now, and love them. I used them every day for two week in Florida hunting beaches and parks. I don’t care for full cover headphones in warm weather.
