The back way from Arboles to Pagosa Springs that follows the San Juan River. The ghost town of Pagosa Junction, an old stop along the D&RG narrow guage RR is along here. Stay on the road to take pics though. I wondered all around takin pics and didn't spot the sign till I walked out.

OOPS!

I like them all! Especially the church! Thanks!

Wow! What's left of the old narrow gauge hasn't been torn up. I wonder how it escape the scrap yard. There's still some track left up on Kenosha pass. I guess that line stop running about 1956 or so. From what read the old narrow gauge trains hauled cattle out of South Park towards the end and then the trucking industry finished the narrow gauge trains off for good as the roads improved.

Beautiful photos! :occasion14:

I'm sure there's probably more narrow gauge in place somewhere around the state tr, but that's the most I've seen outside of an historical reconstruction. Pretty good shape too. Nothing has been scavenged on that whole site, which is cool. Might be something to do with being on Ute land. I always respect signs because in Colorado they prosecute trespassing in a heartbeat, but I sure didn't spot that one. I will know next time though.

Like the pics.:icon_thumright:
