are city parks in columbus ohio to strict?

was out metal detecting today and had a ranger stop and ask what i was doing to city property, at the time i was digging a small hole trying to get at a quarter and that i should not dig in her park but i could dig all i wanted at hoover dam down by the water. I know the rangers are just doing there job and i have seen other people get stopped by rangers but is it me or are city rangers coming down on people who detect in city parks??

I can understand where detecting in metro parks or state parks is off limits but now city parks? what is going on?

Ask them to tell you a specific ordinance that prohibits it. Chances are, they can't. Explain that you fill your holes, and are doing no damage. That "city property" is public property, paid for with tax dollars, just like her Salary. It's friggin grass for Christ's Sake, even if you completly neglect it, it will still grow back three feet high.

As far as i know they are not off limits..several people on the buckeyetreasure hunter web site live around and hunt columbus parks all the time....
NickA is one of them..i have hunted a couple parks with these guys to and have never been bothered......
i did not even know the city parks had their own rangers,,,

Metroparks are more-or-less off limits (no digging), but I'm guessing that's where you were. City parks don't have rangers. I am not sure what the jurisdictional divides are for Hoover Dam, but I know it is confusing. City of Columbus parks are ok.
