HI,

Matt (12 years old) has a question about some buttons he bought. Take it away, Matt:

Are these real? Got them at a coin store all ten for $1. There are 4 black colored ones with an eagle on it, 4 gold ones with an eagle on it, 1 gold one with a bird on it with a crown over its head, and a gold one with the initials F.D. Any help is great, is there any valuable or rare ones?

All I see are boxes with red X's.
Might want to try re-posting your pics.

They all look to be post CW. Nice buttons though.

All your buttons are U.S. Army great seal buttons...

With the adoption of the Great Seal in 1783, Army buttons begin to reflect it. By 1854 all enlisted personnel wore (the CW type that you see often with the Eagle and Shield) -- and after 1902 all personnel had -- the Great Seal button, except engineer officers, who retained their distinctive branch button. Key to dating great seal buttons is the back marks...

SCOVILL Mf''g Co. WATURBURY 1850-1865

American Button Company, Newark, New Jersey, 1903-1920.

The "FD" is a standard/genaric Fire Dept button... WATERBURY BUTTON CO. 1849-1965 which is still made under another mark, same company... http://www.waterburybutton.com/user...reer Uniform&subcatg=Fire Dept&page=1&id=5841

The top right button is a Fire Dept. button.
