He first looks silver the second gold. I have no idea what these markings mean.

What, may I ask, is the story behind finding or buying them? If purchased, what were you told? Don..

I found them in a box of my late grandfathers things.
 
They are 'real' religious medallions.
Some history: In 1830, St. Catherine Laboure received an apparition of the Blessed Virgin and was instructed to strike a medal in Mary's honor. The inscription on the front of the medal reads "0 Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee. 1830" I believe the "M" represents either Mary or her 'miracle'.

Thanks guys and I appreciate the info but I am really more curious if they are actually silver and or gold.
