Jeff cool pictures. Apollo is a nice little town. I just wonder the old timer up there that detected that area left anything! I meet this guy in the early 90's looking for the same fair grounds. Well I never detected the fair grounds but found a nice picnic grove along the way to Elders Ridge! Thanks for posting the pics.

I'd venture to guess a racetrack of some sort. They seem to be popping out to me lately looking on some of the older maps. Seems like they were everywhere around here.

The UNfortunate part of that...level land made for some great development opportunities for the home developers once the tracks where no longer in use.

I found one about 2 miles from me, now a shopping center...BUT...there are still woods just behind and below it and the old railroad bed is still visable, although the tracks are long gone.
If you look on topo maps...where the oval for the racetrack was, it's the only level area for something the size of a small strip mall without a lot of earth moving.
I'll be checking this out real soon....

Jeff I think you are right! It looks like a track. It would be in the right area. If I remember right from the early 90's it was close to the river. I'll have to check this out again this spring! If it is still there anyone interested on detecting it? I'll check it out for us and report. Thanks Jeff

My Pleasure Bill

The Easiest way I have found to Locate a Driving Park is from the air.
The Track gives them away. Some have been used so hard
you can see them in the trees from the air long after they are gone.

Inside the track would be the main Fairground
Hopefully it's still Detectable.

Good Luck !
Jeff

Here is a Recent Arial of the Area.
there is Fields (Woods ?) in the area
Some of it has been Built on.
But the Track outline is still there.

I believe that is GROVE STREET to the right that goes
on an angle like this \

If anyone is still interested in this area, I know exactly where it is located. There have been homes built in the area, but still alot of woods.
