Ever find that point lying down in the dirt looking good and you pick it up and instantly feel that big step on the back?

Here are two the first one had a huge step fracture even the masters could not knock off and thrown away. Now they are mine.

If you have any of these post them up. Lets see your un fixable heart break artifacts !

Sorry the pictures aren't better, not that it really matters anyway with these. These 3 appear to be unfinished points/ blades for whatever reason. Not 100% sure with number three but it looks like a possible unfinished notched blade.

That one is a heart breaker. It was huge step fracture. People that hunt see these often collectors who just buy their artifacts well, pssssft lol

This one was obviously used, the tip is resharpened. But the maker had run into a problem thinning the base. But put it to use, maybe for quite a while….Rhode Island field find.

A failure of a different type.

The Tairona and other groups down in Colombia made a lot of little "gold" figures with the lost wax casting technique. The reality is that most are cast copper (low grade tumbaga) with a tiny bit of gold. The copper was washed with an acid, leaving a little gold which was polished and smoothed to a yellow surface.

The castings often failed and were remelted because the mold broke before the metal set, this is one of the results.

Multiple face pendants and nose rings.

Those are both amazing examples. I have never seen anything like the S. American piece.
Things go wrong during manufacture. Most times we just see a successful one that was broke.

Never seen anything like them til now. Thanks for sharing!

Could be a nearly exhausted core although from one side it looks like a biface. Maybe the worst stack on one I've ever found.

Great pictures. I have seen points that seem to spiral out of control as they worked them. They look kinda twisted?

Looks like a turtle back scraper. I’ve got a very similar one.
