Ashtray??? Notre Dame logo!

I found this the other day. I think it would be pretty cool if the ND is for Notre Dame since they're No. 1 in the NCAA this year! I guess its copper or brass, its about 4 inches in diameter. There are no markings on it anywhere. So i'm thinking somebody had the " N D " engraved in to a cheap (ashtray). Any ideas on what else it could be. Thanks, HH!!!

Sure looks like their logo. If it were on the (outside) bottom I'd think it might be something else, but...
On the other hand I don't think it was an ashtray, but just a small dish/bowl, as it looks to have some age, and most ashtrays used to have a handy little shelf for your cigarette.
It looks like maybe it's plated? Nice find either way.

Thanks! My cousin also said that it wasn't an ashtray because it didn't have a place for the cigarette. If there was plating, it's all gone now. I wish it had a maker's mark on the bottom so I could age it.
