stopped by and talked to a couple old timers who were out with their tools of the trade, one had a Tek netiks 8000, the other had the model prior to that.

Any of you folks old enough remember those models?

I think they were both waiting for their 120th b'days to upgrade, but forgot that one went by already.

Then again, that 1840 dime the one guy had found and the 1916D merc the other one had found were something to consider from such humble and outdated equipment users. Methinks they spend more time detecting, less time typing.

Us old timers also have alot more patience than the younger crowd.....HH

the older you get the less ground you try to cover in a hurry maybe they have the right idea.

Yep...what he said. Not to mention, when you have a machine for a long time...and I mean a Looooong time....I dont think you can beat it. You know every quirk, blip and squeek it makes. I'm like that with my White's 6000....I put my DFX in the trunk and went back to using it.
But of course...I still like trying new machines...just to see... ;D

Lowbatts, I see you're having fun with us. The Teknetics 8000 was just released in the last couple weeks or so, so I guess it shouldn't be too outdated yet. HH, George (MN)

Hmmm... A few weeks ago uh uh! The guys I talked to had been using these same ones for about 30 years!

Old, large, around the neck straps with big analog dials and a few knobs to turn. Downright intimidating!
