Athens Block.....

Found this old brick at a construction site fill dirt pile...I've found some old bottle's earlier in the year as well.This little river town has been around since the 1700's but was really never established until the early 1800's.Tried looking it up and found out there's people selling replica's for 35.00.Any help would be greatly appreciated.Not really a brick man.Thank's and HH!!

Cool find! I have been to Athens Ohio a few times. Will make a great door stop. Something I might do to it would be painting it with a clear coat of varnish or something like that. They make a special varnish for stone to paint stone porches and walk ways here in Germany, really brings out the color. HH, Mike

Seven years ago while attending graduate art school at Ohio University, James Robinson excavated over 2,500 "Athens Blocks" from the hills surrounding the Hocking River. Upon sharing this experience with others he soon learned almost everyone in the area has an "Athens Block" experience to share, and that they shared this experience with great enthusiasm. He met his wife Erin at Ohio University and once they graduated, the two decided to merge their ceramic studio and foundry together to create renderings of the "Athens Block". They did this to recognize and celebrate the historical and cultural connection a simple brick has made with the Athens community over time.
