Had a good time at the diggin' in virginia hunt. It was my first time going to one and I would do it again...it's a cool experience. By the 3rd day I was whipped though. I spent about an hour under a big oak tree and relaxed and enjoyed the shade...it was a hot one. Anyway, here's my finds from the 3 days. My first bullet I found was a .69 calibur...never found one of these suckers. They are big!! Found the bugle mouth piece on the first day and after I cleaned it up I noticed it looked like lead inside of it. Do you think they could have discarded the bugle and used it to pour lead into it? Other neat find was the carved bullet that was carved into a fish head. It was worth it, because I wouldn't dig most of these relics where I hunt. Thanks for looking.

:icon_thumleft: Nice hunt and nice finds, Where in VA was the Dig? Presently my health would not have allowed me to go. Doi woulda thunk i would know where it was held..

Nice collection of lead. That mouthpiece is killer! Where was the dig this year?

Beauregard farm in Culpeper, VA.

You found some nice lead. Hope to go with you next year, sure would be fun!

This might sound stupid, but these CW bullets you guys find, are they bullets that missed?,or did they just drop 'em on the field.

Well if I understand you correctly...some of the bullets are shot/fired and some of the bullets are dropped. Perhaps when they were set up at a campsite or marching they would drop bullets I guess. The one field I hunted there was an obvious battle, but also appeared to have camp sites set up around the area as well.

The DIV hunts are great! Looks like you had yourself a great hunt! Got a lot of nice bullets there, but that carved is a really nice save. :icon_thumleft:

It looks like you did well on the hunt, it would be fun to dig in a area like that and make fines like that, Congrats.
