i work on a ocean going tugboat there is a a system you can follow commercial vessels on the internet. you have to register and it's free we all have what is called a.i.s (automatic identification system) it transmitted by our gps to a station like the coastguard traffic, or other vessels.
go to www.aislive.com/AISLiveportal/desktopdefault.aspx and register all thru GPS
