There's nothing fun about detecting by myself which is why I was greatful to find a great hunting buddy in Bill D. We both share a love for researching and detecting 17th and 18th century colonial sites. Bill is all-around great guy, so much so that after finding his awesome Lord Baltimore coin, he bought me a new Teknetics T2 even after I practically begged him not to. Nobody has ever done anything that nice for me, EVER!! Thank you so much Bill!!

This machine is light years better than my old T2. It's super quiet and the fast audio is perfect for extremely iron-y sites and the boost mode adds inches to the already deep depths this thing gets. It's been tough for me to find time to get out and try this thing but the stars aligned today and I was able to get out and give this detector a good test drive.

I went back to a pounded out site and ran the T2 through a tough iron patch and pulled out a few button, buckles and lead balls. Then I strolled out deep into the fields, turned on the boost mode and pulled out a cut 1663 dutch silver. Without the boost mode I would have walked right over this coin.

Edit: after soaking in lime juice a little longer, the coin is actually a 1633 not 1663 dutch lion dollar.

Awesome find on Bill and the cut silver! Great looking buckle also, what's the silver looking piece on the right of the tacks and pipe stem?

Wow Joey - you absolutely killed it in the iron on just your 2nd time out with the new machine! Looks like I'll need to sign up for some lessons real soon. Love that cut piece. I've never dug a 17th century French silver coin that I can recall. Hope this leads you to an even more amazing find than a Lord Baltimore silver - maybe the denarium :headbang:. That would definitely put that retirement date a little closer. Again, great hunt, and hope we can hook up again soon .... Bill

Although the 17th century cut silver is nice, I think the rarest find was your friend Bill D. Great job from both of you:icon_thumright:

Congrats on the sweet finds, would love to see pictures of those buttons. Bill D. is a real stand-up guy to do that for his friend.

Super sweet finds

great finds with the new machine but I agree that the best find was the great friend, congrats on both

Congrats on that cut Silver! :icon_thumleft:

I don't know what that is. It's silver plated brass and cylindrical. I think I found something like it in the past. I'll throw it in a box and I'm sure someone will post something like it in the future.

Fantastic finds. Really like that cut silver coin!

Thanks. I found it feet from where I found a 1690s Dutch stuivers a couple of years ago. They're the only Dutch silvers I've ever found.

The buttons are just plain faced brass and tombac buttons. Thanks for looking!

Whoops - I didn't mean to say French. I have found 1 Dutch 17th century silver coin - a 1619 two stuivers that came from the hammered coin site about 7 years ago.

Wow, now that's a heck of a nice present from Bill! Awesome! Congrats on having such a good hunt with the new machine. Hey Cjon.....did you see that? His hunting buddy bought him a new detector. Can you buy me a cup of coffee next time? Lol.

You are damn lucky to have a friend like Bill and I'm sure he feels the same way about you bro. We are all lucky to have him as a resource on Tnet. I probably drive him crazy with all of my emails asking him questions and bouncing things off him. But if you want to be the best you have to learn from the best and I made it a point to get to know the most successful guys. Bill has become a very good friend even though I've never had the chance to shake his hand.
You've also been very supportive Joey and I appreciate it. Great finds and I'm glad to hear that you love the new machine. They def have it together at Teknetics

Thanks Abe. He's definitely a great guy and a wealth of knowledge. One day I'll post pictures of his museum...it's unreal!

Joey - I was searching through my coin books and online to find your coin, but have not had much luck. I definitely couldn't find it under 17th century Netherlands. With the "ARG" inscription on the reverse (which is short for argentea meaning silver), I thought it could possibly be German, but didn't have any luck there either. I'm sure you've done your homework on this as usual, but could you post a pic of what the whole coin would have looked like? Thanks.

Nice finds thanks for sharing.

That definitely looks like the same coin. But I'm a little baffled about the size. Those lion dollars shown in your link are 41.6mm in diameter which would make each straight edge of your cut piece about 21mm. But it doesn't look nearly that big in your pic, but its hard to tell. Regardless it's an awesome find.
