The boy and I hit a couple old yards today fighting snow still laying and frozen ground. At our first property it was my turn. I started off finding a couple wheats, old pocket knife and a unbroken harmonica reed.
We weren't finding much or were unable to dig so we started to leave when I got a good nickel/pull tab hit. I've dug so many of these hits just hoping I'd one day see my first gold.
Flipped a plug and there she laid, or so it looked. Took a couple pics and pulled her out. Pushed that ring plug out and cleaned it up a little, 10k gold!! Finally I find my first ever gold, Awesome!!
We left shortly after that and hit a second property. The boy's first find was a 1887 IH followed up with a 36 wheat and a small sweet flat button. The owner here said the yard had already been hit by several other guys.
It took me awhile before I found anything decent then I got a sweet silver hit. Flipped the plug and I find my first ever barber dime, a 1901.
My only other worthy finds was a small buckle and some mystery brass piece.
The boy and I played a role reversal when I found the 5 silver dimes a couple weeks ago. Our next hunt he found a couple large cents then the following hunt a silver quarter to my nothing.Guess our next hunt will be his turn again...

Congrats on a great hunt and that is a fantastic first GOLD !!

Very Cool!

I remember how cool my first few silver coins were. I could not get over how cool it was that they were so clean coming out of the ground. My first gold was a signet ring like that, it came up in my scoop in the lake last summer. Unlike the tarnished silver it was just so clean and beautiful. I got bit by gold fever that day.

Congrats on that first!

Very nice signet ring...
Great finds.

Awesome hunt the ring looks old nice job..

Yep, a great hunt!

Congratulations on your first gold! That style ring, the monogrammed signet, is my favorite style!

WTG!

Congratulations on the first gold! The rest of the finds are pretty sweet too.

The ring is very nice, though the Knight/soldier is the coolest looking find, what's the other side look like? Post a photo if you have chance.

Thanks for the Congrats guys! I don't find the super sweet stuff most you guys find, I try.

I was super stoked finding this gold ring and still on cloud 9.

Don't ever let it distract you from what you dig, some area just don't have the age or the actual site. In time you'll walk over it because your already from what I see from your latest finds it would make lots of folks a little green around gills. I'd even have a big grin on the mug for a week if I dug them, especially now with the soils are under two feet of snow and a frozen cube.

Here's a pic trying to show all angles of the mystery piece. In my original pic the knight guy was laying wrong on the piece. This pic it's laying correct. I tried showing a side view showing there's no room between piece to slide thigs between and it's a solid piece. On the backside there's no sign where there were clips or fasteners like on a brooch?
Looks to me like it was fixed to something else, maybe some kind of decorative piece?
What ever it was it's pretty cool.

My bad, forgot to post the new pic.

Congratulations on the GOLD and very interesting relics.

Great day for you and your son, knock off a couple firsts, great ones too, and spend quality time, I call that a win win

great firsts, congrats on them and the rest of your finds. gold is a strange thing, you begin to wonder if you will ever find any and then it happens. then for some of us, it happens again..sometimes again and again and so on but it is almost always a sweet total surprise in the dirt filled with trash. most of the time there is no rhyme nor reason why it was there but there it is and you were fortunate to be the one to recover it. it is a beautiful ring and so is the barber

Nice finds and nice sash buckle and ring, matter of fact nice bunch of relics!!!vanzutphen

I really enjoyed looking at your finds. Thank you... and congrats.

Very cool finds, I like each one, you did much better than I today. I especially like the Barber, since I haven't found any yet, and the knight if pretty neat too. Story behind that one. You got lots of very different pieces all of them very interesting, great hunt, keep em coming! HH

Thanks for the kind words everyone!!

Weighed the ring and it's 5.7 grams.
