Awesome Old painting who is artist?

I found this painting at a garage sale a few years ago for a few bucks. I really like it and think it may be something really good but I have not been able to identify the signature or what looks like date. Any info would help. What does the signature look like to you? Anyone familiar with this style? Looks like Venice? Italian name?

Not much to go on with that signature. Likely the old part of Venice. Of course, every other budding art student in the 20th century wanted to go to Venice and paint.
