Congratulations on another good hunt. I believe your hatchet is actually an old lath hatchet used when wooden lathes were nailed to the studs and plaster was applied over them. The modern roofer’s hammer seems to be modeled after the older lath hatchet. My father was a builder and collector of tools and I have used hatchets just like yours from his collection in the past. My father started his building career long before wall board or drywall were used.

Stay safe, good luck and keep swingin.
