Found this in a different area than the arrowheads.? I believe it may be a hammer or axe but would like some opinions.? The rock is made from fossilferous chert (very common in the area). Here's the front and back:

The "top" and "bottom" both have fossil inclusions, one of which has been chipped around (to apparently bring it out in relief):

Here's both end that appear to have been knapped to shape:

Thanks for looking!

hmmm, tough call, looks worked, loosely. nice material though.

That thing does look pretty cool... Its hard for me to tell what it could be though... My guess is a rock but you did make some very interesting points about it...

i have seen hide scrapers shaped like this but they are usually a little sharper on one end..

This looks like it could be a pre-form to me. It looks to have definatly been worked on and it has the basic shape. Id say you have an unfinished piece. Thanks for posting and good luck.

i found alot of arrowhead pre-forms in one place, kept looking around and located the vein of flint and several rock tools for working it................................gldhntr

It does look like a worked piece, the beginning of something.

I would have to go with a pre-form. They started working it and then for one reason or another never finshed.
