I have seen near exact come from mid 19 the Cent. sites

Here is a Civil War axe, same as yours. It could very well be mid 19th C. Most CW axes I have seen that is like the one you have looked a-little more lighter weight and is got that little cut edged on the left there... Very possible it could date too Mid 1800s indeed! Good luck with it! Kewl find either way...

......that cut is for pulling nails,these are more hatchets...shinglers/roofing hatchets than axe's
