Found a North Star tag marked with CD Ives. Turns out to be for a coalmine in What Cheer Iowa owned by a Cedar Rapids man around the turn of the century. That would have been the highlight, but decided to hit a park out of town.
Hit a park out of town that's been around since the late 1800's. Oddly I found three wheat penny's right away at 7-8 inches (one was a 1910). On my way through a less than popular section of the park to get to where I wanted to go, hit a scratchy but solid signal that looked like a deep IHP and would have probably skipped it. After going through the Cutaplug Etrac settings video a little week ago though I'm digging more (and finding more). Turned out to be an 1858 Seated Liberty Half Dime!!! Hell ya! My oldest coin and silver to boot. Shout out to Cutaplug for my new settings and Beam Digger/Deep Digging Iowa for the videos that keep me motivated to go out. You really can find this stuff out here!
1858:
-US and the Yankton Sioux Tribe sign a treaty
-Minnesota is admitted as the 32nd US State
-Abraham Lincoln maes his "House divided Speech" on accepting the Republican Party nomination for a seat in US senate.
-49ers stream to the Rocky Mountains for the Pike's Peak Gold Rush
-US President James Buchanan inaugurates the new trans-Atlantic telegraph cable by exchanging greetings with Queen Victoria.
-Gustav Stickley was born
