Every now and then, when I'm finding lots of good stuff, I decide to go to a place where my enjoyment of being out is more important than the finds. At least, that's what I tell myself. ;)

So, today I thought I'd take a last shot at the mansion for the year. The finds are harder and harder to come by but it's worth it just being there. Surrounded by sooooo much history!

Anyway, there just wasn't much today:

Ever get a target that fools you? You figure it's just a can but you dig anyway? Then, after 10 mins of digging you figure out that this thing is MUCH bigger than you thought? You consider just covering up and moving on. But, somehow you get caught up in the quest and then it becomes a MUST DO! You ARE going to get this thing out or know why not! >:(

Well, that's what this was. LOL

It is now my ABSOLUTE largest copper I ever dug! :laughing9:

Here's the rest:

The only identifying marks are the words "patent". Two of them.
I circled them for easier viewing.

I was just thinking that it seemed strange that one type of find
that has eluded me here is bling. I mean, after all, it is a mansion, right?
What better place to find bling?!

It wasn't but about five steps after I thought that when my machine
gave me this:

Who says the ATP doesn't have a sense of humour. ;)

I think Blingie is thinking about changing his name. LOL

Thanks for peeking!

The object that you have circled is a padlock (at least that's what I think) you probably already knew that? Nice finds, keep digging for Blingie, I'm sure he wants more!

One of these days when you come home without a trinket, you're gonna find Blingie has locked you out, lol. I think I would take a pocket full of clad to the nearest gum ball machine and buy a bunch of those cheapo little rings for an emergency bribe.:coffee2:

Hadn't thought of that, probably should keep a trinket or two ready, huh.

I wonder if anyone recognizes the shape of that padlock, it was pretty deep in an old, old area. Might well be the first padlock. ;)

Thanks!

Good finds! I believe the padlock is similar or identical to my VR Victoria Regina (Queen Victoria) padlock in my profile picture. Mine also says patent twice.

BY JOVE!!! I THINK HE'S GOT IT!

If it's not that one, it sure is a brother!

Thanks!

Your disk with the edging looks like the thumb wheel of a radio tuner, or something similar.

Congrats on all your finds and getting out hunting (so you can bring Blingie a trinket)!
Ya you either have to keep some trinkets in the car for Blingie (rub a little soil on them, he's a smart one) ,or a pillow and blanket for you! He's a little unforgiving when it comes to "his trinkets"!

I had to leave a target like that, in coming tide! Was 2X3 ft. probably was sheet metal...or my treasure chest of Pirates gold! Lol! I will never know, at lest you know! HH!

Your guess is as good as, no wait, better than mine. :)

It appears to be a fairly heavy piece of brass. I was thinking maybe some sort of little flywheel to something. The ridges do suggest a turning action though. Scared me a bit when I saw it in the hole. LOL

Thanks!

It is either exactly like mine or it could be earlier. The keyhole cover determines exactly when it was made by the two letters. It could say VR or GR
