Must be extinct --I have never seen a critter like that, lol----nice find :icon_thumleft:

Crazy cool button, I'm an avid hunter and my guess would be a fox hunt...something that big should have a tail though.
curious what others think

Here is a fix hunter with his dog...the horn was for the ranging dogs..also here is a old fox hornimage.webp
they also used horses for the chase, definately a European thing. Hahaimage.webp

It looks like a fox or coyote to me. Very cool, probably mid 1800's.

That button rocks! Congrats!

Cool Button !!! Congrats on your find and I hope you figure out exactly what you got.

I think it is a dead animal.

I played in the woods in Limestone Maine in the mid 1970's. BRRRR

Very nice button
Congrats

Fisher cat? Unique looking button whatever the species. Great recovery!

Fox - Nice Hunts Button. I've not had that type before.

My first glance said fox also. That is a really neat find, congrats

That's a unique button. I will guess large swamp rabbit.

I would also go with a fox. Nice button find.

Very nice button, congrats.

fox hunts have pretty much been associated with horns but not always. other species over the years have been hunted with dogs and horns as well. pretty cool button
