Yesterday, it was supposed to rain. I hadn't planned on going on a hunt,, but when I saw the sun shining with the temps hovering around 70, I knew it was time to pack the DEUS on the bike and get back to "Bucket List Park" Slow and low was the battle plan. Anything that registered 98 and deep, would be dug. I went over a few spots I have hit before and then started to hit the lower hills around the perimeter of the park. It definitely paid off.
There are some old trees in this park and I imagine the heat of the summer had driven numerous park goers, over the years, to seek some shade. This was a 7 hour hunt that turned up 4 silver coins, including my first War Nickel of 2017. I also recovered a near complete, lead WWII toy soldier. The helmet and part of the rifle is missing but it is a cool find in my books.
Of the 4 silver coins that I recovered, there was a 1952 Roosevelt, 2 Mercurys, (29s & 41), and a 1945P War Nickel. I also dug out 9 Wheat Pennies with the most significant being a 1909 in really good shape. There was also a corrosion free 1907 Indian Head Penny. I come to the conclusion that no fertilizer was used when this park was once part of a farm.
There was a copper disc that reminds me of an elongated penny but it is the size of a Large Cent. Both side are smooth. Any ideas on what it once was would be appreciated
