Hi all, I went back to an old fairgrounds that I pulled over 40 silvers from last year and managed some good finds. I was out for about 3 hours and just tried to pick out any signals I could. I found an old bullet shell, 50 cents in clad, 2 wheats: 1920 and 1918, a 1920 5 cent (fish scale), a 1918 d merc. and an old token that says "Wahlberg Bro's good for 5 cents drink". I tried to find out how old the token was and where it was used but could not find anything so if you guys know any advice will be appreciated! All in all it was a great hunt and I can't wait to get back and hunt some more.

Nice! I have one of those Wahlberg Bros. mavericks, purchased last October from a guy who deals in tokens. I have been doing a die study on this type of incuse token that I call "P-38" because the ornament on the lower obverse reminds me of an oncoming Lockheed P-38 fighter airplane. All of them seem to date from 1895-1905, give or take a few years. I theorize that they were made by a Chicago (or perhaps Milwaukee) maker. Nearly all of them are mavericks, i.e. without town and state. There are well-documented attributions ranging from Ohio to Idaho, with the largest concentration being around Chicago.

This particular one is almost certainly from Chicago and has the following references:
1892 Chicago, IL City Directory (Wahlberg Bros. - Emil & Charles - Saloon - 5544 Lake Av)
1893 Chicago, IL City Directory (Emil J. Wahlberg - Saloon - 5544 Lake Av)

Here is the listing on TokenCatalog.com and the pic of the one I have:
Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A.

And, BTW, the initials counterstamped on the reverse of yours probably meant something to whoever put them there, but I don't know what that something was. Oftentimes, counterstamps happen when a business changes hands. They are seldom used to "cancel" a token.

That tokens really cool

Nice silver, that token is really cool and in great condition. Congrats
