I got back on Sunday morning for 4 hours to the old homestead site where last weekend I found the 22K Wedding Ring dated 1815. Almost immediately I found another crotal bell, this was followed by a Queen Victoria Medallion, a ‘crusty’ Vickie LC and a beautiful brass wall hook that originally had a silver wash to it. :thumbsup:Other interesting finds included a couple of suspender buckles (one brass and the other iron), a shield buckle, a toe-tap and a couple of buttons (one white glass). I have done some research and have been unable to identify the Victoria Medallion; I have found some that are similar, but not this exact one. :icon_scratch:

Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee Medal 1897

I should know how this works… a 25th anniversary is a 'Silver Anniversary’ and after 50 years, it’s a 'Gold Anniversary’. Queen Victoria started her reign in 1837, so 1897 is a full 60 years, amazing, so it deserves a 'diamond' designation. This medal, which was struck, not in silver or gold but in low-value white metal and commemorates the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria's long reign. She went on, by the way, for another three years as queen! Medals are not as valuable as coins because there are far fewer medal collectors as coin collectors.

Thanks very much for looking,
Dave

Lots and lots of good targets there Dave! Not sure which is my favorite...the Crotal or the suspender clip! Neat medallion too.

you rocked those 4 hours,:headbang: congrats on the great assortment. You can never find too many crotal bells. Heck I'd be pleased as punch to find my 1st.

Great stuff ANT!

I too love finding anything animal related, but I especially love the old crotal bells!
Best of luck in finding your first bud,
Dave

Great hunt from the same field Dave, liking the variety of the finds. Looks like the LC could use a little soaking in HP to clean it up some.

I think this link will tell you some information on the Queen Victoria medal. Nice find.

Thank you so much for the link Jim, that's exactly the medallion I found! :occasion14:
I'm thinking I'll send Vickie for a tumble, as the only other LC I found here last weekend was an 1859!

Looking forward to us meeting up on Friday, looks like the rains are going to stop and the sunshine will show us the way to a cache of silver! :laughing7:

Thanks buddy... any snow in the west yet? :icon_scratch:

Dave

I don't know about a cache, I'd be happy with one from the new site that we're going to. Going to try to do a door knock on a few back-ups just in case this one turns into a big flop. Either way as long as the weather holds we'll dig a few targets around the area.

Whenever I hit a new site, I never have grandiose ideas of what I might find.
I'm just happy to come away with a keeper... any kind of keeper! :laughing7:

Talk to you later Jim,
Dave

Oh was kind of worried that you weren't going to be happy with a rusty horse shoe, it's all good now.:)

Nice stuff Anti. For some reason, I like the crotal bell, probably because I have yet to find one.

Keep up the good work!

That's a fine looking site there Dave and your finds bear that out! Very nice assortment. I'd be pleased with that set of finds.

Best, Erik

Thanks very much for your post Tom!
Best of luck in your quest to find a British crotal bell in the Carolina's.

Let me know if you ever get north of the border to Ontario and I'll get you onto a farm site where you're most likely to find one! :hello:
Look for a PM from me,
Dave

Thanks for your thoughts regarding the brass hook sutphin!
I feel it likely was attached to a wall, due to a hole cast into the top of the piece and it was the remains of a silver wash on it, so it was meant to be seen.
It seems almost too narrow in design to be a hook for hanging coats, it's also very heavy in it's construction.
Who knows what it's original function might have been. :dontknow:
Dave

Love that site, great finds and I always love your pix. Very sweet!
