found this while digging a fire pit. I metal detected the area before I dug out where the pit was going to go, I found this little metal object, is it a key for something? I have to imagine its not just junk because of the lettering/decorations on it. any help would be greatly appreciated metal .webpmetal 2.webp

I can't tell if the head is bent? Looks like a power pole/cross tie tack?

I think it is an old metal glue tube topper and applicator, with the applicator "spring" broken off... similar to these:

It's from a product known as "Carter's Mucilage" produced by the Carter's Ink Company, originally of Boston and then of Cambridge, Massachusetts. Incorporated under that name in 1895, having previously traded as Carter Bros. & Company plus the off-shoot business Carter, Dinsmore and Company.
