Backyard on Feb. 4, '12

This is what we saw in our back yard on Feb 4. It averaged about 27" deep, but quite a lot of it has melted.

Heard about that one. You guys around the front range got almost more snow in one dump than we got for the whole month of
December. Still a lot of winter left though.

Yes, it was plenty all at once, not the worst. We are right at the base of Lookout Mt and the snow seems to settle in on us, although this time it was blowing almost straight sideways from the NE. :hello2:But more ground is showing in the front yard every day, backyard still has a few inches almost everywhere. Found two copper pennies and a piece of cheap jewelry yesterday in one of those areas. The wind had a bite to it after about 30 minutes, so gave it up.

RGINN: Do you hunt ghost towns up in the mountains? I have thought about it, but wondered if they have been hunted out by now. I have a book by Perry Eberhart that was my Dad's, called 'guide to the Colorado Ghost Towns & Mining Camps', copyright '59 & '69, this copy was printed in 1987. It makes me want to explore, but those places are probably a lot more difficult to get to than it sounds in the book.

I was also reading about hidden/lost treasure in Colorado. What an adventure it would be to discover one of those sites. Would have to keep it quiet and sell it off a little at a time. But the discovery would be as good as or better than the loot.

Here's a photo of that storm front moving in from the south. This was taken from the Apex Trail, above Heritage Square, looking east. Green Mt on the right.

It's prohibited to remove artifacts from most of the ghost towns, mikusek. But I've hunted lots of old mine sites and home sites. Best I ever found was an 1876 dime over near Independence Pass, and I'm convinced those old miners didn't have two red cents between them, and if they lost a nickel they organized a search party to find it. When huntin in the area of old mines, I always hope to stumble onto a forgotten high grader's stash, which most folks don't think to look for. Round Hill down by Poncha was the coolest place I detected, even though I didn't find much. I could spend years in the San Luis Valley. I've found some interesting things over in Half Moon Gulch near Leadville, and I sure would like to find a definitive history of that area. For general results though, I detect all the campsites in the national forests. Nothin old, but lots of change, a gold bracelet once, and tons of tent stakes, which I can always use. One of the best things I find incidental to detecting, is Canon lens cap covers, which fit my camera. Got about 6 now! Good huntin to ya, and isn't there a story about some cash stashed along that road up Lookout Mt.?

That was quite a dump for February. Your shot looks like my back yard - near King Soopers. I shoveled a trail out to my back garage!
Should go off quite a bit today and tomorrow with the high winds predicted.
