Bad Nickel or Great Error ??

I recently found this nickel and I am not sure if it is a good find or just cool to look at. Any ideas on what it is worth would be greatly appreciated.

Well it is a war nickel so it is worth it's silver content. Somebody beat that one up bad!

It looks like it might be a hobo nickel, that someone had started but not completed.

"The hobo nickel is a sculptural art form involving the creative modification of small-denomination coins, essentially resulting in miniature bas reliefs. The nickel, because of its size, thickness, and relative softness, was a favored coin for this purpose. However, the term "hobo nickel" is generic, as carvings have been made from many different denominations.

Due to its low cost and portability, this medium was particularly popular among hobos, hence the name."

Do a quick search for hobo nickels in Google images to get more examples.

seeing a second Monticello impressed into the face. it looks like it was in a stack of at least 2 and smashed between some stones.
I would suggest going back to where you found this one and searching for the one that was against it.

Is it possibly struck through a die cap? In other words, a coin was stuck to the obverse die when this coin was struck, giving a reversed Monticello impression as well as the fainter Jefferson image.

(Given the condition, I guess environmental damage while stacked with another nickel is more likely).

I don't know what the heck happened to that coin but I do notice the reverse is rotated.
